Our story
Soapy Events is the event management arm of Soapy Productions, based near York. The origins of our production company started back in the early 1990’s. What originated as a mobile disco 30 years ago has now changed dramatically over the years.
From 5Bellies Discos (you read that right), to Demon Promotions in the 1990’s, we changed the name again to SHMS Event Production in the late 00’s. This name remained until 2018 when we re-branded to Soapy Productions.
The combination of event management and production has been key to the company’s success. We work closely with charities and organisations on events across the north of England, such as Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, York Pride, York Proms, Martin House Children’s Hospice, WiggyFest and more.
By keeping it local we get to work with fantastic venues and spaces close to home. The relationships with venue partners and clients is really an important part of what we do and who we are.
Growing the business.
Husband and wife team, Simon and Sophie Hudson developed the business into a multi-faceted marketing and events agency in 2015. Since then, what was known as The Soapy Group set to working with brands and businesses across Yorkshire. In 2021, Sophie became a certified Chartered Marketer, working at management level within businesses of all sizes.
Post pandemic gave us a chance to refocus on what we love: Events. The business evolved into Soapy Productions & Events Ltd as it is known today, continuing to draw on both Simon and Sophie’s expertise across production, event management and marketing.
The company is now producing and supporting some of York’s biggest public events, from York Pride to York Proms, alongside some spectacular charity events, awards ceremonies, festivals and more.
